SBFTC is keen to introduce juniors and welcome them as early as possible to shooting in a controlled and responsible environment, full size rifles are unwieldy and we cannot compromise their own safety or that of other members.

We welcome junior members to the club

They must be accompanied and supervised at all times by a parent or guardian over the age of 21 who is a member of the club.

Although between the ages of 14 and 17 minors are permitted to shoot air rifles unsupervised on private premises where they have permission, SBFTC cannot under any circumstances assume responsibility for their supervision.

There is no lower limit on age, the deciding factor will be an assessment of their ability to handle an air rifle safely, although it is felt that 10 is generally the lower limit for both physical attributes, and more importantly the understanding that air rifles have the potential to be dangerous.  This decision will be made by a club officer and reviewed periodically.

Membership for Juniors is £5.

There are specific laws that relate to under 18's and air guns.  It is recommended that you research the laws relating to minors

In addition you must ensure that all air rifles are stored securely if under 18's are in the house, there is a £1000 fine if you don't but the fine is inconsequential to what could, and on a few tragic occasions has, happened.  The law is a little vague on what's required but ensuring the weapon is in a locked cupboard or gun case, or has a trigger lock, and the keys are secure should meet the requirement but we recommend you research this further.  Minors are inquisitive and air rifles are exciting things, a little bit of peer pressure to play with a rifle can lead to devastating events.
